Otago Water Resource Users Group Inc. (OWRUG) is an Otago-wide collaborative alliance of water users that supports local businesses, communities, and the region’s environment. Incorporated as a society in 2022, OWRUG is growing its membership across Otago so all water users have a voice.

Historically, representation in OWRUG was supported by a range of water users, including irrigation schemes and companies, the Central Otago District Council, and Pioneer Energy. The organisation has always been led and driven by water users, a principle that continues today. The contributions made by past individual members for the collective good are recognised and valued by current members.

OWRUG is well placed to advocate for, communicate with, and support the water user community in applying practical, science-based policy — an effort that is increasingly important.
